EarthWorks might be geared toward 3rd – 5th graders, but the truth is that parents and adult volunteers like it too! Learning about the environment and how to keep the earth working is important information for everyone – not just our students! The EarthWorks program offers a great way for parents, family members and other community members to get involved in education. Not only will you be helping students learn about the Midwestern habitats; but while you’re here, be prepared to learn something new yourself, too!

We are able to deliver such a high quality program because of volunteers who accompany class trips and camps. We depend on adults to help the kids understand the lessons being taught and how to problem solve and experiencing being a scientist. Thank you for considering involvement in EarthWorks!

Parent Volunteers at EarthWorks

You’ve been helping your child with their homework for 6 weeks and not it’s getting close to their EarthWorks trip! If you’d like to join your child, please notify the teacher. Teachers select and submit the volunteers to us. Each volunteer must stay for the duration of the entire day (5 hours). If you’d like to know more or sign up, please contact the teacher. In the meantime:

  • Read and become familiar with the Volunteer Orientation Guide before your visit.
  • Encourage your child to visit the Exchange City & EarthWorks website.
  • Have your student explore the Scientists’ Job Descriptions and discuss the differences and importance of various types of scientists.
  • Have your student research the Animal Information to understand more about their assigned animal.
  • Ask your student to share his/her EarthWorks schoolwork with you.

Community Program Volunteers at EarthWorks

Do you love science in general and are looking for ways to get involved in the community? Consider volunteering at EarthWorks as a program volunteer. We love meeting others who can’t get enough of rocks, mammals, plants, soil, ponds and more. If that’s you, please give us a call.
